In each story, one of the March sisters is about the celebrate her tenth birthday. The double digits mean that they're truly growing up, and each girl wants to mark the big day in a different way. Meg would rather celebrate without her baby sisters; Jo wants to give up her childish ways and possessions; Beth requests that no fuss be made; and Amy desires a fancy party.
