Summary :

In Victoria's reign the Devonshire Sylvesters were a race of silent, powerful, black-haired giants. They tilled thier family acres, ate and drank h ard. They prospered in a modest farming way. For many years, the four Sylvester sons guarded their bachelorhood and on market days would go to the notorious side of town. One day Tobias the oldest was take in by an Amazonian woman, a woman of his match in strength and size. Charlotte became his wife. Matthew and Luke soon became married too. But Stephen was still on the prowl. He soon fell for Fan ny Davis, a slight delicate woman, who soon became sick and sent the Sylvester home into disorder. This odd friendship gains momentum and they go the city where Fanny is refreshed. The Sylvester household becomes a place of joy once again.
