In 1979, Vancouver, Richard's girlfriend Karen, slips into a coma, after telling him she is expecting something to happen. While her friends, and daughter, grow up around her, they move slowly into the 90's and what was contemporary culture. Richard gets a job on a TV show featuring the supernatural and the two FBI agents working to discover the truth. While they get on with their lives, of which Karen is still a major part, they find themselves and the world around them. Then, Karen wakes up. The media throw a frenzy, and the world ends.
