It is an old saying in the world of Nehwon that the fate of adventurers who seek to retire can be excruciatingly dull. So when our two heroes the Grey Mouser and Fafhrd left Lankhmar City to serve the obscure freewomen Cif and Afreyt of remote Rime Isle, wiseacres and trusty gossips alike began to say that the pair were flirting with just such a fate.

Yet the indomitable duo inhabit a world that from time to time imitates that of fancy and romance most cunningly, so as to prevent its creatures sinking into black despair or bored inaction. And it is upon - and indeed above and beneath - the lonely isle of Rime that our heroes meet their most challenging and exciting adventure ever.
