Summary (IBList user synopsis):

In "Sitting Around the Pool, Soaking Up the Rays" by Frederik Pohl, a wide variety of aliens from all around the local region of space have taken to possessing unwilling humans, whom they use as proxies for diplomatic negotiation. A resort in Hawai'i has become a gathering place for the possessed humans and Earth's political leaders to negotiate on trading nuclear waste for advanced technology. The story focuses on a few of the possessed humans; the aliens leave them to their own devices outside the hours of conference, but may suddenly take control of their bodies at any time with no warning. Pohl does a good job of letting us feel the oppressive atmosphere of this luxury slave-pen, and ends the story well.
