The ghost of William Shakespeare (sans britches, natch) materializes on this side of that bourne from whence few travellers return, to tape-record a message to the world explaining who really wrote his plays (well, we all know he didn't write them) and clearing up sticky questions about the lives of Elizabethan dramatists in general. In so doing he becomes involved in the plans of a certain bearded revolutionary from a seacoast near Bohemia (well, near some seacoast or other) and must be saved from a fate worse than Bacon by his friend Ben Jonson and a gauzy C.I.A. doxy.
