Summary
:
Adelle Hastings had picked Perry Mason to represent her in divorce proceedings against her husband, Garvin—at least, according to Garvin's lawyer. The problem was that Mason had not yet met his client. She had left his waiting room and had not returned—leaving behind a purse with $3000 in cash, some mysterious keys, and a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver—with two spent cartridges in the chamber. It was beginning to look like a very messy divorce...but when Mason caught up with his "client" in the Las Vegas suite registered in her name, she said she had no need of his services...and had never been in his office!
