It is the year 999 and Ben Attar, a Jewish merchant from Tangiers, along with his two wives and Muslim business partner, undertakes his annual voyage to Europe. Through this trip, Attar hopes to advance his trading interests in Paris and other cities abroad as well as preserve his business partnerships, now made uncertain due to his bigamous marriage. The journey is the beginning of a human drama filled with the moral conflicts of fidelity and desire - as well as issues of faith and religious code and how it emanates from the flesh as much as from the heart and mind.
