(From the publisher):
One day, Klaus and Klara, the glassblower's two little children, are snatched from their parents' world of love and poverty and thrust into an eerie, glittering mansion. They have been kidnapped by the Lord of All Wishes Town, as a gift for his beautiful, unhappy lady. The Lady no longer has the power to wish, having been given everything she ever desired, and the Lord's only interest is to hear her say thank you again. Klaus and Klara find themselves prisoners of loneliness in this mansion surrounded by the River of Forgotten Memories, their only playmates the reflections in the mirrors lining the hallways.
Just as the children's very existence is at stake, a mint-eyed sorceress named Flutter Mildweather, aided by her raven, Wise Wit, arrives to rescue them from the sinister mansion.
