This is a novel of two men, in love-- with the same country. The country is Asante, a sliver of land between Ghana and Togo. The men- Peter Tangent, troubleshooter for an American oil concern, 6'5", too elegant, ambivalent about his manhood- and 5'4" Obiri Anokye, "the Little Captain", who resembles Napoleon in military genius-- and charisma-- as well as height. With the help of Sam Leiberman, larger-than-life mercenary manque from Burbank with a heart of gold and a perpetual leer for human folly, Tangent and Anyoke have a chance of liberating Asante-- and its fabulous oil fields-- for the good of all Africa. But liberation has its price-- always.
