One cold blustery night in 1754 young Robert Entrick, as he rode home across the Lancashire Moors, suddenly felt afraid, though it was easy on such a night to hear things behind the wind. Then two figures on horseback came up out of the darkness towards him. Someone made a grab at his reins, someone struck him, and he slipped sideways...
A few months later, having been brutally transported to America where his new master was murdered by Indians, Robert escaped. He was free, on his own, with a few wet rags to wear, a short hoe, and a stolen canoe. Here in the middle of America, with its woods full of murderous savages, he was more shipwrecked than Robinson Crusoe. And Robert Entrick, who had once been afraid of riding alone in the dark, felt only a wave of elation.
