A clerk with a yearning for the heights finds his destiny (and love?) as the Hawk, a soaring pioneer of aviation. The first edition of the book (and facsimile reprints thereof) are prized for the frontispiece, an early painting by Norman Rockwell; the artist's first book illustration (see image, left).
