Levi is best known for Se questo è un uomo (published variously as Survival In Auschwitz and If This Is A Man), which recounts a year and a half spent imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp. If Not Now When tells a very different tale, of Jews who were forced down a different road, into "making their own future with their own hands".
Based on the true stories of Jewish resistance fighters, the novel follows a band of Russian and Polish partisans seeking to undermine the occupying German army, and brings to light the lives of those who evaded Nazi capture and fought back.
