Summary
(IBList user synopsis):
A man of science is appalled by a birthmark in the shape of a small hand on his wife's cheek, which becomes for him a symbol of her mortality and earthly imperfection. He resolves to remove it by his arts, but the mark is more deeply ingrained in her than he imagined.
