When Rose's beloved father died, she felt lost and miserably unhappy. She was a quiet, overly protected child and now suddenly she was surrounded by her aunts, all pulling her in different directions, while - worst of all - there were seven active male cousins to cope with (when, as she told her only friend Phoebe, she hated boys). Life seemed unbearable until early one morning she met her Uncle Alec, who was to be her guardian. A big, ruddy man with bright - and perceptive - blue eyes, he threw away her medicines, took off her stays, and sent her outdoors to learn how to have fun again. Best of all, she found to her surprise that her seven cousins provided her with adventures, companionship, and love.
