Summary
:
Multivac, the great computer that controls the entire earth, is performing a routine trial on a man who has dared to make an attempt to damage one of its millions of outlets, located worldwide. It is prosecutor, jury, and judge, all at once, for its impartial electronic mind allows it to act with total fairness. The verdict will be guilty, for the man is guilty, and the punishment will be perfect, as there is no need for it to be otherwise.
Multivac is the benign ruler of the remainder of the human race. Its goal is singular, to strive for the betterment of the humans under its care -- all five million of them on planet earth. Every decision is made in accordance with this directive, whether the humans agree to it or not. What could possibly go wrong?
