Now a band of blood-lusting Cheyenne "suicide-boys" are using Outpost Nine for target practice, a wagon train is in trouble, and scouts are being picked off for scalps. When the death toll rises, it's up to Lt. Matt Kincaid to stop the bloodshed - without igniting a full-scale uprising.

With a nit-picking Army Inspector cramping the Company's style, and raw, unruly recruits to forge into fighting machines, Kincaid tries to end the killing, and finds himself knife-to-knife with the Cheyenne leader, a firebrand named "American Tears."
