Biography:

Mavis Leslie Gallant, née Young was born in Montréal in 1922. She started out writing for newspapers. Later, she became a full time author of fiction and non-fiction. She left Canada in 1950 and settled ultimately in Paris. She was a regular contributor to The New Yorker.
