Arthur Byron Cover was born in Grundy, Virginia, in 1950. He discovered Flash comics at the age of 10, Edgar Rice Burroughs at the age of thirteen, and the Clarion Writers' Workshop in Science Fiction and fantasy at the age of twenty-one.
