Drawing picture-stories is something I've always done. As soon as I could read and write, I was crayoning my way through a story, writing words to go along with the pictures, and clumsily stapling it all together to make a tiny book.
It generally takes me a year to complete a book. As the mother of three boys, I fit my work time in between car-pool schedules, sporting practices and games, music lessons, homework, trips to the grocery store, and loads and loads and loads of laundry. Certainly the exuberance and disarray of our household has found its way into my books. Child-friendly chaos, the quirks and endearments of children trying to find their way in our complex adult world, their subversive nature and boundless energy--these are the themes I am drawn to.
