Biography:
Avi was born in 1937, in the city of New York and was raised in Brooklyn. His name, Avi, was given to him by his twin sister when they were about a year old and is the only name he uses. As a child, he was very shy and spent most of his time reading novels and comic books, listening to radio shows and playing games of imagination. Though he performed poorly in academics, writing was important to his family, friends, and school, and was therefore important to him as well. He wanted to prove that he could write, but it took years before he had a book published.
