Biography:

Robert Sheckley was born in 1928 and grew up in New Jersey. As a child he became fascinated with what he now calls "escape literature". After serving in Korea he studied at the University of New York. Writers who inspired him include Ray Bradbury, Theodore Sturgeon and Henry Kuttner. He sold his first story in 1951. During the fifties and sixties a large number of his short stories appeared in magazines including Amazing, Astounding, If, Fantasy and Science Fiction and Playboy. His most frequent contributions were to Galaxy, using the name "Finn O'Donnevan" when two of his stories competed in the same issue. Many of these stories were gathered in collections, with several broadcast on the radio show X Minus One. During the seventies, he focused on his novel series. In the eighties Sheckley was fiction editor of Omni magazine for two years.
