William Patrick Kinsella was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1932. He was educated at the University of Victoria and the University of Iowa, Iowa Writer's Workshop and was a professor at the University of Calgary. His best-known novel, Shoeless Joe (1982) was adapted into the movie, Field of Dreams (1989).
