1921-1999. Born in Belfast (Northern Ireland) in 1921, he emigrated to Canada in 1948 and lived in Montreal till his departure for the US in 1959. His novels include The Feast of Lupercal (1957), The Luck of Ginger Coffey (1960), The Emperor of Ice-Cream (1965), Catholics (1972) and Cold Heaven (1983).
