1282-1348. Spanish prince, grandson of King Fernando III and nephew of King Alfonso X. He was joint regent during the minority of King Alfonso XI and being unscrupulous in politics, he made an alliance with the Muslim King of Granada. His most important books (which have survived) are The Book of Examples of Count Lucanor, Treatize on the Asumption and The Manners of Love. He also wrote books on hunting and heraldry.
