1892-1942. Polish writer and painter who made his living teaching art and was murdered by a Gestapo officer in 1942. He translated Kafka's The Trial into Polish. A few of his works have survived: Sklepy cyanomonowe (1934. "The Street of Crocodiles", published in the US as "Cinnamon Shops") and Sanatorium pod klepsydra (1937. "Sanatorium under the Sign of the Hourglass")
