Acclaimed romantic/suspense author, Sherry Hall Mauro grew up in the San
Francisco Bay Area. She comes from a very artistic family of writers, poets, and
illustrators. Since early childhood, her mother instilled a love of literature
in her younger brother and her. She would read to them every day and when she
was old enough; her mother took her to get our first Library card. With that
card, she gave her the chance to enter another world, the world of make believe—
of fiction. Hall-Mauro would check out at least ten books at a time, quickly
finish those, and eagerly go back for more. So, you see it has been breed into
her, into her very soul this love of the written word. She have been a
voracious reader all of her life, and it has been her childhood dream to become a
You could say she started following her dream at an early age, she started
writing at the tender age of seven, and by the time she was twelve years old,
she had written her first novella, complete with chapters and illustrations. Her
teacher was so impressed that she won first place in the 6th grade-writing
contest. She also wrote, starred, and directed plays, casting all the
neighborhood children in them. In her teens, she read many different authors.
Hall-Mauro is an artistic person by nature, but putting her writing muse
aside; her creative impulses were channeled into hair design rather than into
writing for many years. She was a cosmologist for nine years than she went into
management for a fitness club. But she knew deep in her heart that she was not
doing what she really wanted to do with her life. Therefore, she went back to
college, took various creative writing courses at night, and rediscovered the
craft of writing fiction.
Subsequently, she grew bored with some of the stories that were being
published, and she could not find too many other writers that were writing what she
really wanted to read; therefore, she started passionately writing again.
Romance, gothic, horror, mystery, and suspense have all been her favorite genres
and she wanted to entwine them all…so, she decided to write the kind of book
that no one else was writing. She believes that writing is something that comes
naturally to her, and she strongly believes that you are good at whatever your
passion may be in life, and writing is definitely hers.
It was shortly after the tragedy of September 11th that she decided to get
serious about her first love—writing! It made her realize that if she did not at
least “try” to pursue her dream, she knew she would regret it for the rest
of her life. Therefore, she started pursuing her aspirations by entering and
winning several short-story writing contests, and having a few articles
published. Enough to fan the flame, if not to make ends meet, but it did keep her hope
alive of one day becoming a published author. Then in August of 2002, her
first romantic/suspense novel, Even Angels Fall was accepted and published
nationwide in paperback. Her second book in the saga of the Devour Family, The Face
of Heaven has also been well received. In addition She has new sexy
paranormal/romance novellas coming out this summer from eXtasy Books.
She has won first place in several short-story writing contests and she also
had an article published on the life and works of the late author, V.C.
Andrews in the March 2003 addition of the Reviewers International Organization
Newsletter. Hall-Mauro is an active member of Romance Writers of America and Gothic
Romance Writers of America.
Her published novels are continuing to receive rave reviews from the critics,
and it deeply touches her heart whenever someone writes to her to tell her
how much he or she enjoyed her novels, and that they are eagerly looking forward
to reading more in the future.
