Sinead de Valera (1889-1974) was the wife of the President of Eire and one of the very few really outstanding tellers of fantasy tales in the country today. Her husband's heroic rise to fame from gunman to leader of the country has brought her close to the people, and it is their overheard stories which she delights to retell. Much of her work is aimed at the younger generation, explaining the legends of the countryside and encouraging a love of the Irish heritage.
