Jay Davis was born on Christmas Eve, 1952, in St. Louis. He attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Lindenwood College, where he majored in psychology and minored in English and religion. A lifelong reader, he was weaned on the works of Charles Dickens, who remains one of his favorite writers, along with Stephen King, John Irving, Orson Scott Card, Peter Straub and Anne Rice. HIs favorite books, in no particular order, are A Tale of Two Cities, The Shining, and The World According to Garp. He also loves movies, with a particular fondness for old black-and-white horror or science-fiction films, Marx Brothers comedies, and the films of Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, and Terry Gilliam. His favorite movie is A Clockwork Orange.

He is a co-author of Sins of the Flesh, which was published in 1989, and is a member of the Authors Guild and Horror Writers of America.
