Wolfgang Hildesheimer was born in 1916. A German expatriate, he now lives in southern Switzerland. He is a prolific writer of poems, plays, and short prose, but very little of his work has been translated into English. He is best known here for the story "A World Ends," which can be found in many anthologies.
