Dick King-Smith was born and raised in Gloucestershire, England, where he lived on a farm. After twenty years as a farmer, he became a teacher and then began to write children's books.
He writes mostly about animals. Among his well-loved books is Babe, the Gallant Pig, which was made into a movie.
Dick King-Smith and his wife currently reside in a small 17th-century cottage about three miles from the house where he was born.
Mr King-Smth died 4th January 2011.
