Biography's Source:

Born in Asahikawa, Japan in 1907. His parents, both with a medical profession, had no time to raise their son, and so they send Yasushi to live with his grandmother.

In middle school he started to read poetry, and when he returned to his parents in 1926 he started to write peotry himself. He dissapointed his parents for not passing the exam to enter a medical school. Instead he finally entered the Kyoto Imperial Institute where he received his degree in 1936.

His breaktrough as a writer came finally in 1949 with two novels. Ryoju (The Hunting Gun) and Togyu. For Togyu he won later the prestigious Akutagawa Prize for literature.

His work, which includes poetry, plays as well as novels, are marked with a certain calmness that at first might seem boring. But when the reader get used to the style in which Inoue is writing, apreceation follows, ending in a deep love for the author's work.

Several of his books have been translated to the white screen, and he has received many international awards for his work.

Inoue passed away in 1991 and left behind an important Japanese literary heritance.
