1910-1986. Daughter of the poet Grace Hazard Conkling. At the age of four Hilda began to 'speak' poetry, which her mother wrote down and read back to Hilda for corrections. Her first book of poetry, Poems by a Little Girl was published in 1920, followed by Shoes of the Wind (1922) and Silverhorn (1924). When she became a teenager and her mother stopped writing down her poems for her, her poems stopped, too.
