A jounalist and military historian, Caleb Carr had made his name several times over with his amzing writing style and flair. His book 'The Devil Soldier' was inteded as historical nonfiction, but his claim to fame was when Los Angeles Times critic Jonathan Kirsch observed, The Devil Soldier "often reads more like a historical thriller than the serious work of history that it is." His next books took that foreshadowing and brought Carr to the limelight. The Alienist is distinguished for its historical detail and includes cameo appearances by Teddy Roosevelt, Lincoln Steffens, and J. P. Morgan. Capturing the essence of life in New York City in the 1890s, the book struck a chord with both history buffs and fans of crime fiction and remained on the bestseller lists for months. His follow up book 'Angel of Darkness' continued on the storyline, telling of another such event from the future words on one of the original characters. He has plans to continue this on with several more books, each from the words and view of another main character. More Recently he expanded into a new area, publishing the novella Killing time, which started out as a serial in Time Magazine. Currently he is rumored to be working on a historical thriller set at the end of the revolutionary war.
