Biography:

Charles Richard Johnson. African-American novelist, essayist and short-story writer born in Evanston, Illinois in 1948. He is also a cartoonist and the 1971 PBS series, Charlie's Pad, was based on his work. His first novel, Faith and Good Thing, was published in 1974. He won the National Book Award in 1990 for Middle Passage.
