British journalist/explorer Hesketh Vernon Hesketh Prichard [F.R.G.S.] (1876-1922) wrote fiction as "H. Heron", often in collaboration with his mother, "E. Heron" (Katherine Prichard). Regarded by some as the best rifle shot of his day, he established the first school for snipers in the British army while serving as a Major in WWI. He was awarded the Military Cross and Distinguished Service Order after his death of blood poisoning suffered as a result of war injuries.

The name is sometimes hyphenated "Hesketh-Prichard".
