Born in April 1939, Peter Soyer Beagle was raised in the Bronx. He wrote his first novel, A Fine and Private Place, when he was nineteen. Before this, he was a frequent contributor to the Bronx High School of Science's school literary magazine. His many works has been translated into at least 15 languages.
