Biography's Source:

Born in 1850, Mary de Morgan was the daughter of a famous London mathemetician. With her brother, the novelist and illustrator William de Morgan, she shared a house which became a meeting place for artists and authors of the time. She wrote three collections of fairy tales, On a Pincushion and Other Tales (1877), The Necklace of Princess Fiorimonde (1880), and The Windfairies (1900). These stories began as tales told to the children of her friends (among them Rudyard Kipling), and were illustrated by her brother. Unlike traditional fairy tales, her stories often question the value of wealth and power. She died in 1907.
