Frank Stockton was born Philadelphia, the seventh of thirteen children. Lame from birth, he entertained his siblings with stories and fairy tales. After graduating high school he worked as a wood engraver and published stories, eventually working as editor for St. Nicholas Magazine. His works include several volumes of fairy tales intended for both children and adults, including The Floating Prince (1911), The Bee-Man of Orn (1887), and The Queen's Museum (1897). He also wrote novels, science fiction and utopian stories and was one of the most popular authors of his time.
