Biography:
Born in 1951, Greg Bear started publishing SF quite young, with his first story, 'Destroyers', appearing in Famous Science Fiction when he was 16. He originally intended to become an artist, and published illustrations professionally, but his writing gradually outstripped his painting. His first novel, Hegira, was published in 1979. He became known for 'Blood Music' and 'Hardfought', both of which won Nebulas in 1983, for short Story and Novella respectively. 'Blood Music' went on to win a Hugo the following year. Bear was to repeat this feat with his short story 'Tangents' in 1986 and '87. 1985 was an especially notable year, however, as he also published Eon, which, along with its sequel Eternity (1988), had an equally large impact on the SF world. He was president of the Science Fiction Writers of America from 1988 to 1990. He is married to the daughter of renowned SF writer Poul Anderson.
