Biography:
Born in Scotland, Muriel Spark has written poetry, stories, biographies, and twenty-one novels, including The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. A recipient of many awards and honors, she is an honorary member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and, in France, an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. Muriel Spark was created a Dame of the British Empire in 1993. She passed away in April 2006.
