James Wasserman was born in 1948. After attending Antioch College, he spent several years studying with various teachers of meditation and other occult disciplines. Settling in New York City in 1973, he began working at Samuel Weiser's, then the world's largest occult bookstore. In 1977, he left to found Studio 31, specializing in book production and graphic design.
In 1976, he joined Ordo Templi Orientis, having explored Aleister Crowley's system of Scientific Illuminism. In 1979, he founded TAHUTI Lodge, one of the oldest continous O.T.O. Lodges in the world. He has played a key role in numerous seminal publications of the Crowley corpus, and was responsible for the widely acclaimed reclamation of the Papyrus of Ani, _The Egyptian Book of the Dead: The Book of Going Forth by Day._

In addition to his interest in religion and creative mythology, he maintains an ardent passion for political liberty. He is a student of the United States Constitution, the writings of the Founding Fathers, and Libertarianism. A lifetime member of the NRA, he lives in New York with his wife and two children.
