Michael Chabon's grandfather was a typographer who worked in a New York City plant where, among other things, comic books were printed. Chabon was born in Washington, D.C., in 1963, and grew up in Columbia, Maryland. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's, GQ, Esquire, and Playboy, and in a number of anthologies, among them Prize Stories 1999: The O. Henry Awards. He lives in Berkeley with his wife, Ayelet Waldman, also a novelist, and their children.
