Biography:

Though best known to the public for his two Newbery Medal-winning children's novels (he was the first to win the medal twice) U.S. writer Joseph Krumgold (b. 1908) did most of his work in film. He scripted a number of B movies for Hollywood in the 1930's and 1940's, including Seven Miles From Alcatraz (1942), and wrote, directed and produced 1950's Dream No More. His first children's book, ...and now Miguel, was a fictionalization of a film of the same name which he made on behalf of the U.S. government, chronicling the life of a New Mexico sheepherding family.
