Nelle Harper Lee (born April 28, 1926) was born at Monroeville, Alabama, and attended the local public shcools and the University of Alabama. Before she started writing she worked in the reservations department of an international airline. Her chief interests apart from writing are golf, music, criminology, and collecting memoirs of nineteenth century clergymen.

Truman Capote was a childhood friend and neighbour.
