Biography:

The writing partnership of Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith has been going on now for almost twelve years. They write novels and short fiction together and separately, both under their own names and under the name Sandy Schofield. They have been nominated for every major award the science fiction/fantasy/horror field has to offer, and won many of them. As well as writing, they have edited anthologies and major magazines. They live together, along with their seven cats, on a hilltop in Oregon overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Dean has sold twenty-eight novels, over a hundred professional level short stories, and more poems than he cares to admit. His first novel, LAYING THE MUSIC TO REST, was published as science fiction and was on the final ballot for the Stoker Award for best horror novel. Besides his own work, Dean has worked extensively in other universes, with such books as X-MEN: JEWELS OF CYTTORAK, IRON MAN: STEEL TERROR, and SPIDER-MAN: GOBLIN'S REVENGE in the Marvel Universe. Working with Jonathan Frakes, he wrote an alien invasion novel titled ABDUCTORS: CONSPIRACY. In the gaming industry he's written three gaming novels including SHADOW WARRIOR: FOR DEAD EYES ONLY. In the movie industry, Dean has novelized two different scripts. His latest was called STEEL from the movie of the same name.

He is currently writing original MEN IN BLACK novels for Bantam Books. Dean has won the World Fantasy Award and the Locus Award. He's also been nominated four times for the Hugo Award and twice for the Stoker Award. For years Dean edited a magazine titled Pulphouse: A Fiction Magazine. He currently is editing for Pocket Books an ongoing series called STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS.
