Prolific pulp fiction writer H. Warner Munn was born in 1903 in Athol, Massachusetts. He occasionally exchanged letters and met with horror master H.P. Lovecraft and it was Lovecraft's encouragement that led Munn to publish his narration "The Wolf of Ponkert" (1925), written from the point of view of the wolf. Later, he wrote a continuation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym". He was described by author Jessica Amanda Salmonson as "gentle, calm, warm," and "the ultimate gentleman."
