Horace Leonard Gold (1914-1996) best known as H.L. Gold, was one of the top three science fiction editors of the 1950's, winning the Hugo for best pro editor in 1953. A dynamic editor who shaped the careers of such powerful talents as Alfred Bester, he was also a noted S-F author in his own right, known for such classic stories as "Trouble With Water".
