Francis Marion Crawford (1854-1901) had few connections with Ireland, yet he has written one of the most famous and highly-regarded of all Irish fantasy tales. Son of the distinguished American sculptor, Thomas Crawford, he devoted much of his youth to travelling and to the study of Sanskrit. He wrote a number of novels on the occult -- including the much under-valued The Witch of Prague.
