1888-1964
H. Russell Wakefirld was the son of Bishop Wakefield of Birmingham. He was educated at Marlborough College and Oxford University, where he took Second Class Honours in Modern History. He was for a while secretary to Lord Northcliffe, in service in both World Wars, and a writer of teleplays for the B.B.C.

Collections include: They Return at Evening (1928), Old Man's Beard (1929, US title Others Who Returned), Imagine a Man in a Box (1931), The Clock Strikes Twelve (1940), and Strayers from Sheol (1961)
